HEALTH AND WELLNESS ASSISTANCE (mental health and
physicals referral linkages)
Usually at the time of enrollment each youth are
given a referral to Community Advanced Practice
Nurses to receive a health check up. In case of
major medical or mental health issues sighted by the
CAPN referrals to our identified general primary
doctor are given a call for an appointment and
scheduled visit. Since inception the agency has
referred over 10,000 young men for health check ups
in the 20 year period of operation. Staff is trained
to dispense medication and record according to State
standards and all medication is under lock and key
at all times. We have sponsored the cost of doctors
prescribed medication for youth residents and
outreach. The agency requires a mental health
assessment on all residents and up-dated
psychological on those agencies referring youth to
the housing program. A psychological assessment is
required with in a 30 day period of lodging. The
agency has contract with a substance abuse counselor
to implement individuals and group counseling
sessions on site. In the case of extensive mental
health cases sighted the agency staff make the
necessary referrals to advanced collaborative
agencies for assistance.
